I grew up in a fairly rigid environment of Christian theology. My uncle John Hanrahan had a much harsher upbringing and was from a very young age trained to be a Catholic Priest at a Novitiate School. After many years struggling against the Catholic hierarchy, he left the priesthood and became a freelance book reviewer and author. I decided that having emerged from a thankfully less strict environment than John, with some rational education and learning that I had a responsibility to try and teach others, to reduce religious divisions between people with a few facts on Charles Darwin, and evolutionary timelines.
After graduating from Melbourne University with a psychology degree and completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Social Research, I worked for some years in educational publishing producing and marketing textbooks for Australian secondary schools, Universities and TAFE courses. I started writing content for Heretic Press in 1994. I was motivated to provide all the facts I could gather together without destroying a single tree. I wanted to help anyone with limited information struggling to make sense of the world have an easier journey because I treated life as a long lesson and took notes for them to help them out of any ancient egocentric religious beliefs.

After hand writing all my own HTML and then XHTML and Javascript for a few years, I was surprised how low standards generally were in online publishing, even by governments who slap up webpages with badly written Content Management Software (CMS) or even Dreamweaver, NetObjects or Adobe GoLive etc. There is no appreciation of web standards compliance WCAG or how non-human search engines index and archive webpages. I wanted to make Heretic Press a leader in online self-paced learning and accessibility research. I produce validated HTML or XHTML for websites and achieve high page ranks from most search engines for thousands of keywords. I also aim for WCAG accessibility compliance with keyboard navigation for the blind and seven different layout options for the colour blind.
I publish online webpages and research in seven main areas:
- Fiction novels online Nunc and Tunc and International Languages
- Multimedia mobile phone ringtones, animations and earth quicktime movies
- Psychology Dealing with Conflict Personality and Stress
- History and Philosophy. Evolution Science and Family Histories
- Justice issues, drug testing, ethics and web security
- Religion self-observation techniques, "Know Thyself"
- Accessibility research and audits of websites for standards compliance
