Validation Error Score www.gov.com − 51

This wepage has almost no "meta tags" giving page modification dates, author contact or copyright information.
This webpage page even has unnecessary Javascript embedded in it, just to display the date and time!
Tables are used to layout the page and include font colours. This page is made with an old version of HTML without using stylesheets at all, just a very old HTML page which mixes up formatting and content.
This webpage needs be completely rewritten with accompanying new stylesheets. Additional improvements to a completely new page would be a skip navigation option and accessibility features like Tab indexes and keyboard shortcuts.

An important error to correct. The DOCTYPE Declaration was not recognized.
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> is not a correct document declaration.
There are three main types of xhtml that this document might be declared as, the one incorrectly declared here is transitional:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
The Whitehouse webpage has minimal "meta tags" it does give a page modification date, but no author contact or copyright information.
An attempt has been made to address accessibility issues by providing text only versions, tabindex, alt tags and recordings of President Bush. However, unnecessary graphics are used for spacing with empty alt tags. The page is flawed as an undefined xhtml document, partially using stylesheets, but also with font information embedded in the page.
An old HTML page which mixes up formatting and content. G.W. Bush could do a lot better. This is not a very good example to set for the rest of the country regarding compliance with the Rehabilitation Act S.508.
The page needs to be rewritten declaring the document type and xhtml version, with the noscript element for users who have Javacript turned off.

The department of state's homepage has less accessibility features than the whitehouse or .gov.com websites. It uses a stylesheet, but also uses unnecessary inline styling font tags. The HTML errors should be corrected and the page updated to HTML 4.01 Strict to seperate the content and style information.

As with all these state.gov pages, Javascript is used, but there is no warning for users with Javascript turned off. You would hope the information office might set a better standard in communications, but it is no beter than the other poor quality pages from state.gov. The information office webpage has 19 HTML errors, mainly minor ones like open ended Table tags and old deprecated HTML errors. The same comments holds true for all pages from state.gov, they are a mixture of old HTML with a stylesheet which still uses redundant font tags throughout. It should be updated to HTML 4.01 Strict, the errors should be corrected and accessibility features need to be added.
All State.gov pages have no accessibility features at all for low vision Americans to access government information. Some pages have toll free phone numbers to call.
